real housewives chatter
i guess if you've been keeping up with my media logs, there's been a lot of real housewives viewing this year. i started watching it probably the year before last, but very casually and not to the extent that i'm watching now (keeping up with seasons as they're airing, taking a look at online discourse, etc. i used to just binge watch a season and forget about it for half a year). reason for it, well, i can't really say. my best intellectual guess is coming off from suetonius' caesars, i need more gossipy-esque stuff about affluent people, but don't take that seriously.
- i don't think i remember which was my first one, but i think it might've been sydney or melbourne? or potomac for the us ones. and i think i've watched at least a season for the above plus chesire, new york, atlanta, rhode island, new jersey, and salt lake (partial for beverly hills and orange county, but oc might move to the 1 season completed group after this season ends💀) favourites... probably melbourne, potomac, atlanta? (oh but rhode island had a pretty cracker first season too...)
- btw on this point, i've only really watched the most recent seasons (1-2 years ago at most, except for melbourne, which is that i haven't watched the last season lol) and i am actually not sure at all if i want to bother revisiting the older seasons? maybe though. i'm interested in old rhony and rhoa, but we'll see how bothered i am about it
- ^ has thus made me kinda not gaf about bringing old housewives back, etc. the most recent example is vicki bc like mannnnnn. sorry, she was prob giving more when she was on before, but i don't think she should be here (she seems so miserable) and her schtick doesn't work for me. i also remember kenya being booted after what she did to brit and i have seen some stuff from her earlier years and i think like yeah, but at that time i watched her get the kick, i think i knew her for like an hour so i was like idrc, sorry. she is gorgeous though, can't lie.
- my friends were surprised when i said i watched rhws LOL but that makes sense because i don't seem like that type of person (watching reality tv ig) and i think my reasons to them were like i am a lifelong slice-of-life enjoyer and i like looking at how other people live and admittedly i like looking at how rich people live (because it's kinda bonkers). and i am kinda sucked in now bc it's such a weird, fascinating world too, and i think importantly, so opposite to my own ideal that it keeps me around. like negative examples for my life haha.
- also great for social analysis too, even if just by looking at how these women argue with each other. i don't think i have an example on hand, but i do remember finding myself thinking about particular fights and how they present their arguments against each other and almost giving them a review of how well i think they did as a viewer lol
- also it is fascinating to see the fan chatter around it. one thing that has been interesting to see is how people try and like. morality stan some of the women? i feel like you are setting yourself up though to stan any of these women like that lol
anyways. enjoying watching these unhinged wealthy women on my screen after work while i stretch (or not. i'm lazy). maybe more to come.
